Community Center Science Camp
Founder and Volunteer, Summer 2015 & 2016
In my early high school years, I was looking for ways to contribute to my community and I began volunteering with the local community center by my elementary school where I spent countless afternoons and summer days so many years before. I started my involvement reading bilingual English and Spanish books to the elementary school children and generally helping plan and organize the various activities.
I then began to develop an idea for a summer science camp at the community center to blend fun activities with foundational science concepts. I worked closely with the community center to design activities that incorporate scientific learning with stimulating applications.
Throughout the course of creating and implementing this program, I learned so much about communicating and sharing my passion for mathematical and scientific thinking. Not only that, but being able to share such ideas through entertaining projects like propulsion car races or spaghetti tower competitions was definitely a highlight of my high school experience.
