American Society of Mechanical Engineers
Northwestern University Chapter, 2018 - 2021
Beginnings
Since the start of my career at Northwestern, I had attempted to find a community for mechanical engineers to collaborate, share experiences, and build our skills together within the specific discipline of mechanical engineering. In January 2018, I started the process of establishing a student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). After navigating the administrative obstacles to become recognized by Northwestern University as well as the national ASME organization, we were able to focus on setting a solid organizational foundation. I was fortunate to be elected the President as I conducted general meetings, information sessions, guest speaker events, and represented Northwestern ASME at the 2018 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition in Pittsburgh, PA.
Aeolus Hovercraft
In 2018 and 2019, we directed our efforts towards the Innovative Additive Manufacturing 3D (IAM3D) competition involving the design of a hovercraft resupply vehicle utilizing as many 3D printed parts as possible. We also hosted a guest lecture from the 2018 Roe Medal winner, Ms. Gwynne Shotwell, the President and Chief Operating Officer at SpaceX in February 2019!
Dromos Car and Kyma Remote
Another set of new projects has been led by a new generation of ASME members this year including our 3D printed, remote-controlled car, Dromos as well as its accompanying remote, Kyma. We've learned so much across our structural, mechatronics, sourcing, and 3D printing design teams.
